Literature Works is the strategic literature development charity for South West England. We are a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England.
Literature Works is a registered charity, Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation, and company limited by guarantee set up to enable and nurture literature development activity in South West England: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire, unitary authorities of Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, Isles of Scilly, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Torbay.
Literature Works’ role is to fundraise for the Grassroots Literature Programme, a support and grant scheme providing small awards for literature activity across the region, and where possible securing funding for larger regional projects with delivery partners, advice, advocacy and partnership.
We also provide a central resource for literature in the South West region and support the wider literature sector through large scale research and evaluation and work as lead partner with Plymouth University on the Literature Fundraising Centre project. Our mission is to support, understand and advocate for our regional literature sector in all its contexts, for everyone, for all ages, and that sector’s place, growth, relevance and value in a national and international literature development future.
Giant Reads are just one of the initiatives we offer to the communities we support both on a local level and, by providing websites, on an international scale. Giant Reads like our sci-fi adventure One Giant Read offer the opportunity for shared reading and writing experiences and aim to bring reading and writing as well as an exciting array of new reading materials – both factual and fictional – to a diverse readership and audience.
