Brian Blessed is a much loved British actor and film star who was trained at the Bristol Old Vic. He has starred in numerous popular British television series and his film credits include the science fiction classics Flash Gordon (1980) and Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace (1990).
In addition to his many acting credits, Brian is also an explorer and mountaineer and became the oldest man to reach the North Magnetic Pole on foot in 1999 and to reach 28,000 feet of Mount Everest without oxygen.
Brian has a long standing fascination with space, admitting that ‘it is the greatest possible thing to study’. In 2012 he announced that he was a fully trained cosmonaut, having completed 800 hours of training at Baikonur in Kazakhstan – the same facility where Tim Peake completed some of his training and launched into space from – and fully intends to go to the International Space station for his 80th birthday.

In these extracts from his book Absolute Pandemonium (2015), hear Brian speak about his experiences on Flash Gordon and Star Wars in his uniquely recognisable way!
