Royal Mail released a set of David Bowie themed stamps on Monday as tribute to his illustrious career in music and film and they were launched in more ways than one!
The stamps, which showcase some of the musician’s iconic album covers, were not only launched for sale to the public but were also launched into space. Royal mail decided to launch 52 sets of the stamps to commemorate each year of his professional recording career in music into space in recognition of his space themed music and acting credits.
The stamps were launched into space so that they could fall back to earth, a reference to his starring role in the 1976 movie The Man Who Fell to Earth. The stamps which have been launched into space are marked with a red lightning bolt hand stamp.
Not only are the stamps on sale, but Royal Mail are also offering the chance to win one of the sets which have been into space if you can guess the landing location. The competition is open to UK residents and closes on 26th March 2017.
