Professor Iain Stewart, a geologist at Plymouth University and our science expert this month, has been presented with the Senior Public Engagement Prize by the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
This accolade has been given to Professor Stewart in recognition of his wide range of public engagement both through the medium of broadcasting and within the education sector. He received the award in February 2016.
His work in broadcasting began in 2002 and his most recent series for the BBC, Planet Oil: The Treasure that Conquered the World was shown on BBC4 in January of this year.
In 2013, Professor Stewart was appointed an MBE for his services to geology and science communication and is an active member of a number of educational organisations and charities in the South West of England in Scotland and aims to diversify and broaden geological education with his work.
